LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's been an exhilarating and overwhelming 5.5 months of pregnancy. Sure, I've had my ups and downs like most expecting moms, but my latest five-month checkup was a game changer.
This little nugget who has its own ecosystem inside my growing belly actually looks like a baby! Not a cluster of cells. Not a blurry image on a black-and-white ultrasound photo that I'm forced to turn upside down eight times to try and decipher.
My baby actually looks like a baby.
OK, maybe it's a mix between a cute little monkey and a cabbage patch doll, but hey, we're getting somewhere.
For those of you who don't know, my husband and I both work in television. It's not as glamorous as it sounds, I promise, but we pay the bills based on our relationship with a camera, and of course all of you wonderful people at home. So, when our baby wanted nothing to do with posing on picture day, Jude and I couldn't help but laugh. The best part of our five-month check up came when our wonderful ultrasound technician put the magic wand on my belly for the first time.
Our bouncing bundle immediately turned its back to her, giving her a great shot of its spine. Naturally, she put the wand on the other side of my belly, and you better believe our baby did a triple lutz, and its spine was front and center again. This went on for a few minutes until we finally got some good head shots. It's clear our little guy or girl has no intention of smiling bright for the camera. Hopefully it follows its own pint-size footsteps anyway.
In my last Jones' Journey I opened up about the first time Jude and I felt the baby kick. Well, let me tell you, those cute little booties in the ultrasound pictures have some giddyup to them. I'm lucky if I go two hours without feeling a nudge here or there. My daughters say it feels like a heartbeat; I think it feels like a balloon popping inside of my stomach.
It's strange at first, but I can't help but smile like a kid on Christmas morning every time I feel the baby's tiny touch. This has been the most miraculous part of my journey so far, then it's time to play the name game and my excitement fades like an evening sunset. I also wrote about this in a previous Jones' Journey post.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT NAME?
It's hard when you aren't finding out the gender of your baby, so make that two perfect names until it's showtime. For now, "it" seems to be our go-to. Terrible, huh? Any tricks or suggestions for finding the right one? This is our latest baby drama, and yes, it's drama for this mama. See you on the flip side - six months is almost here, friends!
Thanks for being a part of this with me.
