JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - An abandoned rail yard has been brought back to life.

Louisville & Indiana Railroad Company held a ribbon cutting on Friday. The company is ready to move forward thanks to the completion of the Dutch Lane Yard.

The railyard gives the area more capacity to move goods from truck to rail or vice versa to warehouses. Materials including coiled steel, grain and soft drinks will be loaded and unloaded for distribution.

Louisville & Indiana Railroad President John Goldman said, “This is a first-class transload facility with room to grow, so there's a lot of potential here for Southern Indiana and Kentuckiana.”

The project took eight months to complete.
