ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Songbird won the $100,000 Santa Ysabel Stakes by 3 ¾ lengths Saturday at Santa Anita to improve to 6-0.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Songbird ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.02 and paid $2.10, $2.10 and $2.10 as the overwhelming favorite in a field of nine 2-year-old fillies.
Land Over Sea returned $3.80 and $2.60, while Mokat was another 3 ½ lengths back in third and paid $5.40 to show.
Songbird, last year's 2-year-old champion filly, earned $60,000 for the Grade 3 victory, giving her a career total of $1,742,000.
With a staggering $823,407 bet to show on her, Songbird accounted for a minus show pool of $158,463. There was $75,897 bet to place on her, creating a minus place pool of $4,900.
Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Songbird would be pointed toward the $400,000 Santa Anita Oaks on April 9.
