LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man died before dawn Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 5700 block of Old Heady Road, about a half mile from the Gene Snyder Freeway, near Fisherman's Park.

The driver of a White Chevrolet Silverado swerved into the eastbound lane of Old Heady Road, nearly hitting an off-duty police officer, according to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

That officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, Mitchell said. That part of the investigation is being handled by the LMPD Public Integrity Unit.

The truck hit a tree. The driver, the only person inside, died at the scene. The coroner's office has not released his identity.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
