LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville has been selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament at the KFC Yum! Center, and the Cardinals open the postseason event on Friday with Central Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Louisville (25-7) is making its 19th appearance in the NCAA Tournament – sixth straight – and eighth under head coach Jeff Walz. The Cardinals, who earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history, have won 24 of their last 27 games and finished the season eighth in both major polls.
Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Myisha Hines-Allen is leading the Cardinals into the postseason tops in scoring (17.5) and rebounding (8.4), while shooting 54.0 percent from the field. The All-America candidate and sophomore has compiled 11 double-doubles and scored at least 20 points in a game on 11 occasions. Classmate Mariya Moore is second in scoring (14.0) and boasts a team-best 142 assists.
No. 14-seed Central Arkansas (28-3) heads into the tournament with nine-consecutive victories, including capturing the Southland Conference Tournament. The Sugar Bears went 16-2 in league play, finishing second in the regular-season standings. Maggie Proffitt is pacing the team in scoring (14.3), while Brianna Mullins is producing 10.5 points and has dished out 110 assists, making her one of two players (Jameka Watkins, 118) with triple-digit assists.
The Cardinals and Sugar Bears follow No. 6-seed DePaul (25-8) and No. 11-seed James Madison (27-5), which tips at noon.
