MAPLEWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man is facing charges after police say he tried to rob a Maplewood business at gunpoint using a fake gun.

The owner of the Sole Survivor Leather store told the Maplewood Police Department he feared his life for a moment before realizing a multicolored water pistol was being pointed directly at him.

Officials say when Amanuel Perkins allegedly demanded money, the victim pushed the toy gun away and kicked him out before police came to arrest him.

According to police, Perkins denied that he intended to rob the store, claiming the whole thing was a joke for St. Patrick’s Day.

Perkins is charged with one count of attempted first-degree robbery.
