LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Pope Francis isn't changing any Catholic Church doctrine on divorce, but he is putting more emphasis on individual conscience as a guiding principle for Catholics.
In the 256-page document "The Joy of Love," Pope Francis says the church must no longer sit in judgment and throw stones against those who fail to live up to the ideals of marriage and family life.

Louisville Archbishop Joseph Kurtz called it a sign of the Pope's compassion.
"Remember our Holy Father spends most of his time talking directly to families and so this is a message not going just to priests but every family and I think that is especially encouraging and inviting," Kurtz said.
Pope Francis still says marriage is a lifelong commitment.
