CAVE CITY, KY (WAVE) - A Metcalfe County man is the new owner of the former Guntown Mountain/Funtown Mountain property.

David Froggett Jr. had the winning bid of $295,000 at Wednesday's auction.

Froggett said he's lived in the area his entire life and recalls what the amusement park off Interstate-65 was like in its heyday.

"I remember coming here as a kid, and we're going to aim to make it into something that people are going to have memories of and make it something clean and decent," he said.

Froggett, who owns a radio station in Edmonton, has big plans for the park. Some of those include an indoor waterpark, a zip-line, a 5-star restaurant, cabins, as well as getting the iconic chairlift running again.

Froggett, who is in partnership with a development firm from Chicago, said the renovations could cost $20 million - nearly 100 times what he paid for the property.

Froggett said he's tossed around the idea of possibly changing the name of the attraction to Mammoth Cave Mountain.

Louisville businessman Will Russell, the man behind the Lebowski Fest and WHY Louisville, bought Guntown Mountain in 2015 and changed the name to Funtown Mountain.

Russell, however, stopped paying his bills and defaulted on a $200,000 loan. The state then put the property up for auction Wednesday.
