LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer made it official on Tuesday, throwing his support behind Hillary Clinton for president in advance of the May 17 Kentucky Democratic primary.
"I am thrilled to be supporting Hillary for President, and was excited to be at the launch yesterday evening of her Kentucky campaign headquarters," Fischer said in a written statement. "Hillary Clinton has the experience, the understanding, the passion and the plans to give all Americans the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and thrive and to keep Americans safe at home and abroad.
"People are looking for a president who will deliver results that make a real difference in their lives. That's Hillary Clinton. As first lady, she helped get health care for 8 million children. As senator, she helped expand family leave for military families. As president, she'll work to create good-paying jobs, fight for equal pay for women, and make sure all our kids get a good education no matter what zip code they live in. That's why I'm with her."
The announcement was made in a news release delivered by the Clinton campaign.
