VERSAILLES, KY (WAVE) - Together American Pharoah and Bob Baffert created history. Something the country waited 37 years to see.

Monday, Bob Baffert drove the hour to the quiet of Ashford Stud Farm in Versailles, Kentucky to reunite with his friend who made them both Triple Crown Champions.

“I got so emotional because he hasn’t changed his demeanor. Such a sweet horse. He’s not supposed to be this gentle and nice and this great. So different than ever had,” he said.

Bob Baffert’s wife, Jill Baffert, said American Pharoah was part of their family and he had so much influence over their lives for an important year.

“I think about him every day. We talk about him every day. People ask about him every day,” Jill Baffert said.

She said she was excited and nervous to see American Pharoah again and worried if he would remember them. Bob Baffert joked that American Pharoah remembered the baby peeled carrots they brought for him - the same kind they fed him over his 18 months of training.

“He’s filled out, his body has filled out,” Bob Baffert said.

The Baffert’s son Bode said American Pharoah still felt soft.

“I really don’t know that much about horse racing, but I know he’s a really good horse. I know that he’s done a lot,” Bode said.

Their reunion was short because American Pharoah had to go to work. He’s being bred a few times a day.

“I felt like he remembered us,” Jill Baffert said. “I know he’s moved on and I hope he never forgets us either.”
