LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville once again showcased to the world great hospitality this past week. A record Oaks crowd and near record Derby crowd topped off an impressive week of racing.
We heard from many of you frustrated about the races both days shown live exclusively on the NBC Sports Network per a new contract for Oaks and Derby. That was obviously not our decision. We used our broadcast, digital and social media platforms to communicate the adjustments we needed to make to our coverage but that didn't make the reality easier. Our team certainly worked hard to capture the unique flavor of the events and Louisville did dominate the national ratings for the Derby.
Cheers to the hundreds of volunteers who made the entire Kentucky Derby Festival season a smashing success. Multiple festival events delivered record attendance and the spirit and enthusiasm for them continues to grow.
Thunder Over Louisville attracting more than 700,000 people adds to its appeal as an event unlike any other nationally.
The chase continues for another Triple Crown with a trainer who certainly has a special affinity for Louisville. We wish Nyquist well in the pursuit!
