MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl found dead in her mom's vehicle in Madison County on Wednesday.

The child was found outside of a daycare center called Little Footprints Learning Center near Gluckstadt.

"Unfortunately you hear about it periodically across the country, across the state. Unfortunately this one's here in Madison County," said Sheriff Randy Tucker.

The sheriff said the unidentified mother came to pick the toddler up after work not far from the facility. But after driving to the daycare center and going inside she received horrible news.

"They told the mother you didn't drop her off this morning and the mother immediately became distraught, ran out to the car and realized the two year old was still in the car," said Tucker.

Madison County deputies received the call to 319 Distribution Drive around 3:20 Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said the mother found the toddler in the car seat of the SUV. The woman and her husband were questioned at the scene.

"It looks like a tragic accident," added Tucker. "I can't see any way other than to look at it from that point based on what we know."

Investigators believe that the toddler remained in the mother's vehicle throughout the day as temperatures reached the mid 80's.

Parents picking up their children from the daycare center were shocked at the news of the toddler's death. Raven Braden, the mother of a six year old, was passing by the learning center while the coroner was conducting his investigation.

"I think we just have to slow down and basically take the time to look, to make sure that we're handling everything when it comes to our children. That's really sad," said Braden.

The mother and two year old's names have not been released. No charges have been filed but the case will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office.

We will update this story as soon as we get more information.
