LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A potentially game changing summer awaits for 1,200 soon to be kindergarten students in Louisville, thanks to Jefferson County Public Schools, the Archdiocese of Louisville and several other community partners and foundations.
Kudos to them for stepping up to develop and fund the $1.2 million needed to fund kindergarten readiness camps. In addition to academic support, all campers will receive transportation to and from camp, as well as breakfast and lunch.
Last year, 300 students benefited from these four-week camps, and the results were substantial, as three out of four students who attend the camps tested ready to go when kindergarten began. The norm overall is two out of four students who enter kindergarten are ready.
With four times as many students in these camps this year, hundreds more students will be kindergarten ready this Fall.
You really can't get more bang for your buck than these camps will provide.
Students starting kindergarten ready uplifts them each subsequent year.
We applaud the efforts to make this happen!
