LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Commonwealth of Kentucky is home to well more than 300,000 veterans, a good number of those in the Louisville area.
They've been waiting more than a decade for a new VA hospital and expected this would be the year they would get it after the Department of Veterans Affairs purchased land on Brownsboro Road nearly five years ago for the project. But they won't get it this decade, since no construction has even begun.
Final approval has not been granted for the project and questions abound about why so much was spent for the land – nearly $13 million – and potential traffic concerns.
The VA Hospital on Zorn Avenue has served vets for nearly 65 years and it is certainly past time to upgrade and modernize. The vets deserve it. They certainly don't deserve further delays.
It is time to expedite the process.
