Pass the Cash: A little help after a fire took everything

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - There is no better exercise in life than reaching down and pulling someone else up. Each Wednesday you give us a pretty good work out at WAVE 3 News by leading us to those in need in our community.

Cynthia Campbell has wanted to Pass the Cash since January of this year.

"I thought and thought and thought about it for a long time and said why not," Cynthia said.

With her computer down, Cynthia opted for a pen, paper and snail mail to WAVE 3 News. She wrote a letter to help Pass the Cash to Sherry, her neighbors daughter.

"I just thought if it was me would somebody be that generous to help me," Cynthia said.

A fire took all the family had.

"In January their trailer burned down. They lost all of their belongings, pets, her dentures, everything," Cynthia said.

They lost everything but their lives.

"The only clothes they have is what people have donated to them," she said.

Our donation started with $300 from WAVE 3 News, plus another $90 in donations.

Cynthia was not sure what Sherry would say.

"I didn't know if you would want me to do this so I just did it," Cynthia told her. "So if you're upset or mad blame me."

Cynthia passed the $390 in cash and more tears than we could count.

Sherry has had a lot to deal with, getting a new trailer, moving that trailer, new zoning problems on her land, the list goes on and on.

"Our life has been ripped out from under us starting in January," Sherry said.

With the cash, we hope we also pass a little peace of mind.
