LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Bills coming in non-stop, but not a dollar coming in to pay them.
This week as we Pass the Cash we head to the Portland neighborhood to help a family hurting both financially and physically.
Their story is one shared by many in WAVE Country. They say it all started as one person decided to get behind the wheel drunk.
I have two of my co-workers, friends, that were hit by a drunk driver," Reine Boyd said.
Reine went straight to wave3.com to fill out a nomination form for her friends so she could Pass the Cash.
"It was a pretty bad accident they were in," Reine said.

And to make things worse, Reine said,"So far they haven't got anything from insurance or anything. No financial help from anywhere."
"Just imagine not having any money coming in," Reine said. "They don't have anything right now."
Except a bunch of bills and not dollar bills until we give Reine $300 from WAVE 3 News to pass to her friends.
"I told them what was going on with my friends and everything. You guys have been through so much. I wanted to give you some more help," Reine said.
To make it official we reminded Reine to Pass the Cash and count it out to her friend Gina.
The cash will come in handy but what Gina and her family need cash can't buy.
"A drunk driver come up behind us and flipped five to six, maybe eight times," Gina said, "broke three bones at the top of my back."
Gina's Mom had 14 staples in her head.
The drunk driver had to be cut from his car, but was he hurt?
"Not at all. Not a scratch," a family member said.
Along with the family's physical pain comes a little anger and mental distress.
"This wasn't his first DUI. He's got kids apparently. Both families are going to go through it now," the other family member said.
The family says the driver was from Indiana. Different state, different laws than Kentucky.
"Everybody is supposed to have insurance, but yet where we've missed work Indiana don't pay no lost wages so we've been out of work for about a month and a half without any income coming in," Gina's mother said.
But even in the midst of all this chaos there is something they cherish even more now than ever before – family.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Gina and her family. To learn more or to donate, click here.
