LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville Metro Police Department has arrested a 16-year-old boy in the August 24 shooting death of 14-year-old Troyvonte Hurt. at Jacob and Clay Streets Wednesday night.
A 16-year-old was arrested about 3:00 a.m. Saturday. He is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence.
Lt. Todd Kessinger of the LMPD Homicide Unit said the suspect and a 24-year-old were both wounded in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of Clay and Jacob Streets in the Smoketown neighborhood just before 9 p.m. on August 24. Hurt was with the two victims in a group that was targeted by the shooter.
Kessinger said members of the targeted group, including the 16-year-old shooting victim, returned fire at the car. In doing so, the 16-year-old hit his friend Troyvonte Hurt in the back of the head with a bullet. Hurt died in his brother's arms.
The 16-year-old suspect and the 24-year-old shooting victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Video obtained by LMPD lead to the arrest. Kissinger said. the video could lead to additional arrests. So far, no one who was in the car is in custody.
The 14-year-old victim, Troyvonte Hunt, was charged in a gun case earlier in the year by LMPD's Second Division.
