RICHMOND, KY (WAVE) – Thousands of dollars in tools used to build homes for people in need were stolen from Habitat for Humanity.

Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Russ Barclay told WAVE 3 News affiliate WLEX that a crew of volunteers were working on a project on Brown Street in Berea and locked up the tools at the end of the day.

The next morning the crew found someone broke into the home and stole several tools from their trailer.

"Someone had broken through the back window and tore a hole through the side door of our trailer," Barclay told WLEX. "The people took our table saw, they took a compressor and multiple circular saws."

Barclay said the stolen tools were worth at least $3,000.

"We've got a couple of home builds coming up and our tools and our equipment are critical for us to have a successful workday and be able to build homes," Barclay said.

Habitat for Humanity is in need of donations to replace the stolen tools. If you would like to help, click or tap here for more information.
