SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Every Wednesday WAVE 3 News looks for your help in making a difference in the place we call home. When one of us struggles in some way it affects us all. Tonight we Pass the Cash to a man who has never asked for help but it certainly doesn't mean he's not in need.

On Highway 44 in Bullitt County we held up our Pass the Cash sign and folks in Shepherdsville did just that. They passed the cash to us. A little something extra to help someone in need who needed a little something extra just to make it.

LeeAnn and Thomas Embry stopped because they knew their friend Denis could use a helping hand.

“He's a Veteran. He has a lot of medical issues. He's getting ready to have another surgery tomorrow again and it's his third surgery,” LeeAnn said.

It can be difficult to know how to help someone who doesn't ask for help. As an Army Vet, Denis keeps his struggle and his pain to himself.

“He's doing without. Doing a lot of struggling when it comes to bills and all,” Lee Ann said.

LeeAnn first had to find Denise. She had 60 minutes to Pass the Cash gave to her to Denis but it had to be a surprise.
We had $300 to pass from WAVE 3 News and an extra $25 from people who were passing by.

Denis stayed right where he said he'd be.

“I see a TV crew and my good friends but I don't know what's going on,” Denis said.

“We're passing the cash to you because we know you need it,” LeeAnn said. “We want you to have it so Thomas is going to give it to you.”

With disability as his only source of income Denis said, “Little broke down, I worked 43 years so I deserve something out of it.”

A fixed income that makes it a little hard to fix much, but we hoped to help as we passed the cash.
“Gosh thank you very much. I don't know what to say,” Denis said. “I've got good friends is all I can say.”
