On Friday, November 6, 2015, Officer Daniel Ellis was looking for suspects from a gas station robbery that happened earlier in the day. When officers entered a home where the vehicle wanted in the robbery had been found, a person inside denied that the wanted man was there.
As Ellis entered a room, the wanted man stepped from behind a door and shot him in the head. The shooter was wounded when another officer returned fire.
Ellis, 33, died two days later at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
It was learned during the investigation that the shooter told the other person in the home that he would shoot an officer if they came inside. Because the other man knew that and failed to warn officers, both men were charged with murder.
