LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Does Louisville need more than 100 boards and commissions?
Are they making the impact they could be when at times this year there were hundreds of open seats and expired terms on dozens of boards, commissions, and panels?
Expediting the appointment process starts with the nomination process happening sooner.
Some Metro Council members are proposing contingency plans for nominating someone if a new or vacant position is not filled within 30 days. That seems to have merit, although 45 days may be more appropriate.
Council should also consider the necessity of each of these boards, or at least the number of people needed on them. Most may be integral to the optimum operation of the city, but some may not be, or may not need so many members, particularly since many have carried on with limited numbers.
Reassessing how things have always been nearly always makes sense. In this case, it should happen now.
