CLARKSVILLE, IN (WAVE) - The head of Clarksville Community Schools will be out of a job next school year.

The school board voted unanimously to not renew Superintendent Dr. Kim Knott's contract for the 2017 school year.

Board President Bill Wilson said the board has had some concerns for some time with Knott. While he didn't want to go into specifics, he said the board has had various issues in the past

“We felt things were not going smoothly, we felt things were not moving as quickly as they could move and that's been going on for a little bit of time, which led us to that decision last night,” Wilson said.

Moving forward, Wilson said what he is looking for in a leader is someone who can budget well and will work closely with the board.

"We want somebody that, and I think this is key, really connects with the community," Wilson said. "Somebody that will be a part of the community and connect and I think if we get that, we will be doing very well."

Wilson said financially speaking, Knott was top notch.

"She really good, did a great job for us,” Wilson said. “Now there were certain other areas that the board would have liked to have gone in different directions on and I think that's finally what came about. Financially, we are in a good position right now, thanks to her, but there are other things that need to be taken care of."

WAVE 3 News reached out to Knott, but we’re told at this time she is not going to make any statements. A school spokesperson tells us that this decision was not a surprise.

Knott will remain in her position until June 2017. She's been superintendent since 2010.
