LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Friday was a typical morning at the Clingerman's home on King Arthur Lane in St. Matthews.

The couple's grandchild walked to the bus stop while his grandmother picked up the paper and tossed litter from her driveway.

"Was just sitting there casually when all of a sudden all hell broke loose," Patsy Clingerman said.

Three men walked right through their front door and started demanding money.

"I've never had a gun pointed at me before and I didn't know if it could go off at any given moment or how this was going to play out," Patsy Clingerman said.

Patsy Clingerman said the men acted like she knew about an envelope with money - she thought maybe it was the litter she'd thrown away.

"I tried to convince them I didn't know what they were talking about," she said.

Two of the men rummaged through her kitchen while the third pointed the gun at her. Patsy Clingerman's husband, John Clingerman, was upstairs when he finally heard the men's voices.

"I yelled. I said, 'What's going on?' When I came down the stairs I didn't see them, I smelled them," John Clingerman said.

The men took off through their back door the minute they heard John Clingerman's voice.

"Extremely grateful because I might not have been here," he said. "Afterwards it was that gratitude that you know, I'm here and it didn't turn out the way that it appeared that it might."

The only thing the men got away with was John Clingerman's cell phone.

The Clingerman’s surveillance camera caught one of three men. So far police haven't caught up with the suspects.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call St. Matthews police at (502) 893-9000.
