ISP: Driver causes 3 crashes during pursuit

FLOYD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – A driver was taken into custody after a police chase that involved three crashes.

According to Indiana State Police, a trooper witnessed and responded to a crash on Interstate 64W when one of the drivers, Travis Richmond, 37, took off going the wrong way around noon on Friday. Police said the vehicle caused two more crashes as the driver was being pursued by the officer.

Richmond finally stopped along U.S. Highway 150 where he was taken into custody.

Sgt. Jerry Goodin said, "This was a very dangerous situation, there was a lot of peoples' lives that were at risk with this situation. I have no idea what type of stupid thoughts was going through this driver's mind why they decided to do it."

Officials said they were lucky no one was seriously injured.

Richmond is facing multiple charges including DUI and leaving the scene of a crash.
