Some JCPS employees to get raises

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Some Jefferson County Public School employees will get a boost in pay. 

On Tuesday the JCPS Board voted to approve salary and step increases after months of negotiations. 

Salaries for support staff substitute teachers will go from $9 an hour to $10.10 an hour.  

Full time support staff who aren't already making $14 an hour will have their salaries bumped to $14 an hour.

Certified Teachers will get a 1.5 percent increase for next year and a .75 percent this year. 

The salary changes for some of these positions will be applied retroactively, back to July. 

Staff won't see changes on their paycheck until the end of October.

"A non-teacher salary structure that hasn't been reviewed in 40 years will not be changed over night" said Dr. Hargens, during her superintendent's report. 

The salary increases were approved, after the approval of the $1.4 billion dollar 2016-2017 working budget. The budget was passed 5-2 with board members Lisa Wilner and Steph Horne opposing the budget because of "lack of information"
