Pitino says he's moving past NCAA investigation at UofL basketball media day

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Rick Pitino says he has moved on from the NCAA investigation that kept his program out of the NCAA tournament last March.

The University of Louisville head coach made the comments at his teams media day on Tuesday afternoon at the KFC YUM! Center.

"Once the notice of allegations come out, the the school will comment on all that," Pitino said. "We haven't even gotten to that point yet. This is going to probably go to June or July before we resolve this. As far as our basketball team we have full closure with this."

Once the NCAA does release an official notice of allegations, the university will have 90 days to respond.

The Cards first of two Red-White scrimmages is set for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the KFC YUM! Center.

As for his team, Pitino says fans will notice a motion offense and strictly a man-to-man defense.

"I think what you'll see is a lot of turnovers, not because of poor offense, but because we are really in the mode, everything we do is about steals. I think you'll see a lot of steals, but also a lot of turnovers, because it's been happening that way in practice, from good defense," Pitino added.

Sophomore guard Donovan Mitchell has dropped 18 pounds. Last season he was listed at 210, this year he is just below 195.

"When coach and I talked over the summer he gave me specific points, he said look, you look slow here when you should be here, and he explained that," Mitchell said. "Part of it was that I didn't know the defenses well, but I did see certain spots where now this year, I'm getting to in a hurry. Guys aren't beating me off the dribble. I'm getting back in front of my defenders, going for steals that I usually wouldn't, just to be cautious. I feel like I've gotten much better defensively and keep my energy up consistently through a whole two hour and 30 minute practice."

UofL's first exhibition game is Thursday, November 3, at 7 p.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan.
