Man killed in Phoenix Hill was murder victim's stepfather

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The man who was shot and killed in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood has been identified.

Dewan Booker, 41, was found shot between two buildings in the 800 block of East Chestnut Street around 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner J. David Wood.

Booker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Community activist Christopher 2X said Booker was the stepfather of Troyvante Hurt, 14.

Hurt was shot and killed on Aug. 24 at the intersection of Clay and Jacob Streets. According to police, Hurt was with his 16-year-old friend when they were targeted during a drive-by. The 16-year-old returned fire and when he did the bullet hit Hurt in the head.

The 16-year-old was arrested.

No arrests have been made in Booker’s case. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous Louisville Metro Police Department tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
