Bank robbery prompts lock down at Clarksville schools

CLARKSVILLE, IN (WAVE) - A bank robbery in Clarksville prompted lock downs at several schools in Clarksville on Monday.

Police responded to the robbery at PNC Bank on Eastern Boulevard at about 9:30 a.m. Police told WAVE 3 News the suspect handed the teller a note demanding money, then ran from the scene after receiving an undetermined amount.

Investigators asked Clarksville Community Schools, Providence High School and others in the area to elevate security until they were sure the suspect was no longer in the area.

School officials said the lock downs lasted about 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the school and when it was cleared.

Police are still looking for the suspect. The man is described as African-American, 5'5", weighing 14-160 pounds and unshaven with a mustache. He was wearing a checkered-pattern white and black long sleeve shirt and a ball cap with an emblem on the front.

Police said the suspect fits the description of other robberies in Clark County.
