Armed motorcycle theft leads to police pursuit

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An armed motorcycle theft led to a police pursuit in Louisville late Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the crime in the 7800 block of Lesane Drive about 11:30 p.m. Witnesses told them a man had been held at gunpoint while his motorcycle was stolen.

Louisville Metro Police Department officers spotted the motorcycle and pursued it along the Gene Snyder Freeway and on and off various streets at high rates of speed until it crashed at Bardstown Road and Breckenridge Lane. The suspect, Jeramie L. McGrew, 27, of Louisville, was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

McGrew's arrest report says he was going more than 120 MPH at times while fleeing.

McGrew is charged with fleeing and evading police, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, not having a motorcycle operators license and failure to maintain insurance.  He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections and is scheduled for arraignment Thursday, October 20.

Officers from at least four LMPD districts and a police helicopter took part in the pursuit.
