LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A suspected car thief led officers on a pursuit from Floyd County into Louisville where he crashed the vehicle and was bitten by a police K9 early Wednesday morning.

Dispatchers said the Floyd County Sheriff's Office notified MetroSafe about 12:30 a.m. that deputies were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Interstate 64 across the Sherman Minton Bridge. Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department spotted the vehicle and joined the pursuit. Eventually, the driver got off I-64 and crashed the car in the area of 15th and Oak Streets.

The driver got out and ran. Police set up a perimeter at the crash site and eventually caught the suspect with the help of an LMPD helicopter and a K9 unit, which bit the man. The suspect was examined by an EMS crew and taken to University of Louisville Hospital.
