JEFFERSONVILLE — By 2 p.m. Tuesday, Clark County Voter Registration volunteers began opening the 9,606 absentee and early voting ballots to be fed through a counting machine.
But county results weren't finalized until 4:30 a.m. Wednesday — after the United States presidential race was called.
"It's terrible that we didn't have the results," County Clerk Susan Popp said. "It wasn't fair to the voters, it wasn't fair to the candidates. It's unacceptable."
The delay was caused by the machine that read the absentees, Popp said. Ballots were hand-fed through the machine, counting 350 per minute.
