Maurice E. John, M.D.

Dr. John, Founder and Medical Director of the John-Kenyon Eye Center, is today one of the most well-known and respected ophthalmologists in the world.

Dr. John received his undergraduate education from Drake University and his medical training from the University of Iowa Medical School. He served his internship at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

Dr. John specializes in cataract and refractive surgery. Since beginning his practice in 1974, he has traveled extensively to study and teach eye surgery, and has lectured or been the course director for courses in 15 countries throughout the world. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is certified in Cataract/Implant surgery and Refractive surgery by the American Board of Eye Surgery.

He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is chairman of the Instrumentation and Devices Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Excellence in Eye Care, and is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery's Laser Task Force.

Dr. John was the first president of the International Refractive Surgery Club and is on the Medical Advisory Board of the University of Louisville Lions Eye Bank. He is also on the Board of Trustees at Drake University in Iowa.

Dr. John is married (Jan) and has four sons. His hobbies include traveling, aerobics, weight lifting, basketball, public speaking, and wellness.
