Wrong-way driver crashes into UPS Store, causing partial collapse

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A wrong-way driver crashed a pickup truck into The UPS Store at East Broadway and Shelby Street near downtown Louisville Thursday morning, causing the building to partially collapse.

The business' owner said crews at the scene told her the building was considered unstable. A crew was at the store shoring up the building later on Thursday.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck, a man from out of town, was traveling north on Shelby Street, which is a one-way street that runs south. He entered the intersection of East Broadway and Shelby Street and hit a car traveling west on Broadway before crashing into the building.

The driver of the pickup truck and his passenger were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the white car was not injured.

The crash remained under investigation, but police said charges likely won't be filed in the case.

The crash was reported at 6:21 a.m.

Broadway was closed for more than an hour, but it has since reopened.
