Dixie Elementary students get new shoes

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Students from a Louisville school have new shoes thanks to generous shoppers in Valley Station.

One-hundred students from Dixie Elementary picked out new footwear at Rack Room Shoes on Tuesday.

The store collected donations, then matched the amount to total more than $3,000.

"They get to actually pick out the type of shoe they need," Dixie Elementary principal Stephen Howard said. "Do they need a dress shoe, a boot, or a tennis shoe? Once that is completed and sent in to use, through a lottery system we select which students get chosen. You can't put a value on the feeling of having new shoes."

Howard hopes next year's donations will allow the entire school to get new shoes.
