LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Germantown Craft House closed on Sunday, but its owners plan to open a new concept in January.

The Germantown Craft House opened its doors in July as another new development in the neighborhood.

"We were trying to stay open through the end of the year obviously to take care of our employees, take care of the staff but it got to the point where we just couldn't ignore it anymore,” Beau Kerley, a partner and owner of the restaurant, said.

Kerley and partner Pat Hagan also own BBC and Crescent Hill Craft House.

"I think we really just cannibalized our business so instead of having two really awesome craft houses, what we ended up having was two craft houses that were really underperforming,” Kerley said.

Kerley and the staff have already started renovating for the new concept.

"We nearly put more of a fast-casual style here to begin with but we had such great luck with the craft house,” he said.

The new restaurant will still serve beer and plans include arcade and shuffleboard games.

“We have some cool smoked foods that we're going to use but I wouldn't say that that's the major part of the menu,” Kerley said. “It's going to be a lot of comfort foods, things people like to eat, that are easy to order.”

He said even with the initial failure, the Germantown neighborhood has room for another restaurant.

"Germantown is an awesome neighborhood. We love Germantown,” Kerley said. “Obviously, you can see all the growth happening here.”

If everything stays on schedule, the unnamed new restaurant should open in mid to late January.
