LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man suspected of robbing a bank was arrested after crashing his SUV on Interstate 71 on Monday.
Louisville Metro police responded to a robbery at the US Bank branch located at 333 Whittington Parkway around 12:15 p.m. They learned a man entered the bank with a knife and demanded cash. After receiving an undetermined amount of money, the man took off in a red Ford Explorer.
Police located the suspected getaway vehicle on I-264 near I-71 a short time later. The SUV overturned in the median north of Zorn Avenue.
Interstate 71 was closed in both directions while police investigated the scene. The interstate reopened around 2:30 p.m.
Air 3 was in the area immediately after the red SUV overturned. Officers pulled a male from the SUV and placed him in custody. He was later put into an ambulance and taken to University Hospital for treatment. His injuries are thought to be non-life threatening.
LMPD said the man may be responsible for other robberies in the area. His name has not been released.
