GOODYEAR, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A head-on crash in the west Valley Friday evening left one child dead and four others injured. All the victims are believed to be under the age of 18.

Goodyear police say two cars collided in the intersection of 147th Dr. and Camelback Road in Goodyear.

Neighbors believe one of the vehicles was attempting to turn left from Camelback into the neighborhood when it was hit head-on by an oncoming car.

Five people were hurt. We saw at least one being transported to the hospital by helicopter.

Goodyear Police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis confirmed Saturday morning that a 12-year-old passenger had died.

She said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Neighbors who heard the crash ran to help. One neighbor pulled a young boy from the wreckage and performed CPR until paramedics could take over.

Others say when they heard the crash, they knew it was serious.

"It sounded like a big bang, like a bowling ball getting dropped in a dumpster, just a loud noise, and being so close to the Air Force Base, you don't know if it's training or something else, but we knew it was something bad," neighbor Kevin Scott told us.

Neighbors also say their HOA has been asking for a stoplight to be installed here to slow drivers down.

Camelback was closed in both directions for hours while police investigated the crash.
