MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A day was officially named in honor of a young girl who fought sickle cell anemia--and won.

Morgan Symone Grant is a trailblazer for sickle cell anemia after becoming sickle cell free. In recognition of what she has accomplished, Memphis City Council named a day after her.

She even received a standing ovation from city council members.

Grant has been a St. Jude patient her entire life. She received a bone marrow transplant from her father. He gave her bone marrow and stem cells.

Now, she is sickle cell free.

But, she's not stopping there. Confined to a wheelchair, she said her next goal is to get up and walk.

Grant said faith is what got her through it all.

"Well, just basically believing in God. He was my main pioneer, so without God I just basically couldn't do it," Grant said.
