MARION COUNTY, FLORIDA (CNN) - Authorities in Florida arrested a man on Thursday for allegedly plotting to bomb Target stories across the country.

Officials said Mark Barnett, 48, paid a man $10,000 to put the bombs on shelves in stores from New York to Florida. The bombs were disguised in food packaging like breakfast snacks and pasta boxes.

According to police, Barnett wanted to make Target stocks drop so he could buy cheap shares and make money when values rose again.

The man surrendered explosives to authorities.

Prosecutors said the bombs could have caused serious injury and property damage.
