LOUISVILLE, KY (FOX19) -

On the second-month anniversary of taking office, President Donald Trump is optimistic and confident about where the country is heading.

“We are really just starting,” the president told Tricia Macke in an interview outside his Louisville rally Monday. “We are going to have some really strong, great policies that are going to take effect.”

Trump spoke at the rally in hopes of drumming up support for the Republican plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

“It’s been very bad for Kentucky,” Trump said about the current healthcare law. “Obamacare is destroying families, destroying businesses, destroying jobs, it was a big lie, it was the ultimate lie if you think about it. Keep your doctor, keep your plan, the architect said something about the American voter is stupid to approve it.”

More than half of Kentuckians voted for Trump in November. U.S. Sen. Rand Paul also won Kentucky by a wide margin, but vocally opposed the GOP’s current health care agenda.

“Look, he’s got the right heart, the right spirit, he’s saying what he believes,” Trump said about Paul. “But I think the plan will be great. Remember though, the alternative is Obamacare. If we don’t do this, we are back to Obamacare and Obamacare is really unsustainable.”

Macke also spoke with Trump about the Brent Spence Bridge, unemployment rates and whether or not he ever regrets a tweet. Check out the full interview in the player above.
