LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - There is no good reason not to allow farmers to grow, process, transport, and sell hemp.
It should be removed from the federal list of controlled substances. Roadblocks to produce it should also be removed. Kentucky stands to benefit the most if this happens as the soil in the Commonwealth is a perfect fit for the crop.
Kentucky already is prepared having been the beneficiary of a pilot research program for hemp. We encourage passage of the Hemp Farming Act and hope it passes with strong bipartisan support.
In a polarizing environment where agreement on issues seems impossible, this is a no brainer. Kentucky was once a national leader for hemp production and we welcome it becoming so again.
