Dance Out Loud

Dance Out Loud is a free event featuring dancers of all ages doing all types of dances. The 2nd annual event will feature ballet, contemporary, hip hop, African, and lyrical dance.

ArtsReach Dance Ensemble, choreographed by Marcellus Love and Portia White, will present three new works, one of which blends music, video and dance grappling with bullying. Intergenerational D.E.S.T.I.N.E.D. Dance Company will open the show with an African piece, and later present a lyrical selection. Genesis Arts from Shawnee Arts & Cultural Center will showcase work by pre-school and elementary age students. Adult company Keen Dance Theatre will present contemporary works. This spirited performance will conclude with hip hop dance by Shively students under the instruction of Safiyyah Rasool.


Since 1991, The Kentucky Center's ArtsReach Program has empowered community centers to program the arts, nurtured and developed diverse artists and audiences, engaged youth and created community through the arts.

Pre-Derby Scholarship Fashion Show

This Sunday, you can brunch while supporting young women. Local designer and business owner, RaeShanda E. Johnson, is presenting the 3rd annual Pre-Derby Scholarship Fashion Show. Scholarships are awarded to teen moms to assist them with college expenses like books, meal plans, etc. Johnson's business, All is Fair in Love and Fashion, strives to ensure teen moms have a chance for a bright future. Winners are chosen based on GPA and an essay.

This year's scholarship recipients are Zireia Lee and Kara Lewis. Zireia has a 3.32 GPA and plans on majoring in nursing. Her principal says she's an unsung hero and a member of the Leading Ladies program. Zireia has a 2 year old son. Kara Lewis has a 3.56 GPA and plans on majoring in Culinary Arts and serving in the Navy. She has a year-and-a-half old son.
