May is Mental Health Awareness Month. People who suffer from mental illnesses often self-medicate symptoms of anxiety and depression with drugs and alcohol, intensifying the symptoms and causing more negative reactions. There is a link between mental health and the opioid crisis/substance abuse.

Wellstone Regional Hospital offers dual diagnosis treatment programs that address the mental health concerns while helping patients detox from alcohol/drugs. Dual diagnosis is important because when a mental health disorder is untreated it can leave a patient unable to get sober, while substance abuse issues can make mental health treatments ineffective.

Wellstone Regional Hospital provides mental health and chemical dependency services. Some issues that are treated at Wellstone include, but are not limited to stress, anger/rage, hyperactivity, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, compulsive behavior, suicidal/homicidal thoughts, depression, panic attacks, anxiety, phobias, and self-mutilation.

Anyone that needs help or detox services can visit Wellstone Hospital in Jeffersonville or call 812-284-8000. Free behavioral healthcare assessments are available 24/7. Wellstone has been serving the community since 2003. They provide services for all ages.

Destruction Alley

At most businesses when you break it, you buy it. But at Destruction Alley, you pay to break it.

There are hundreds of ways to relieve stress but a new WAVE Country business is letting you smash and break items in a confined room to wind down. You choose a tool (baseball bat, golf club, or hammer) and spend 5, 15, or 25 minutes breaking stuff. Customers also have the option of throwing baseballs at items like glass bottles, pictures frames, etc. lined up on shelves.

All participants must sign a liability waiver, provide valid ID, and will be provided safety gear.

Destruction Alley accepts donations of breakable items.
