Suspect arrested in assault that left man with paralysis

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man has been arrested for a June assault that left the victim with life-altering injuries.

Harry Lewis Smith, 46, of Louisville, was taken into custody on July 10 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Smith is accused of getting into an argument with another man on June 11 that turned physical. The warrant says Smith beat the victim with his fists causing him to fall backward into a bumper and trailer hitch.

The victim was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. According to the warrant, the victim suffered a spinal cord injury and partial paralysis. He is currently being treated at a rehab facility and will need the use of a walker or wheelchair for the rest of his life.
