IDEM investigating oil dumped in creek

The clean up may be over, but the investigation into who dumped used cooking oil in a creek is just getting started.

Officials with the city engineer's office tell us they reviewed the clean up at Sheridan Park and approved it. That means all the booms have been removed from Pigeon Creek and Evansville Country Club's ponds now.

In late July, someone dumped used cooking oil into the waterway, and the clean up cost thousands.

We just learned IDEM is starting its own investigation. They want to know approximately how much oil was dumped.

That may make it easier to determine whether the oil came from something as big as a restaurant or small as a food truck.
