Northern Ky. man sentenced to life in prison for three murders

(NEWPORT, Ky.) -- A northern Kentucky man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole for killing three people last year including his wife and daughter.

Michael Richardson Sr., 46, had previously pleaded guilty to killing his wife, Joyce Richardson, 46; his daughter, Sunshine, 18; and his daughter's boyfriend, Phillip Leslie, 16.

Under the sentence handed down by Campbell County Circuit Judge Julie Reinhardt Ward, Richardson will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

Police said Richardson, who worked at Coral Graphics in Erlanger, went home about 3 a.m. on Dec. 27 after botching a job. He woke up his wife at about 5 a.m. for her job and told police he "lost it" after the couple began arguing about their mounting bills. Richardson told police that he shot his wife, his daughter and Leslie.

Newport police said the family's two dogs and a cat also were shot to death.

Following the shootings, Richardson called his son, Michael Richardson Jr. of Bellevue, and the son called 911 and told dispatchers that his father had just killed three people, police
