Shepherdsville man faces more rape charges

(SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky.) -- Another alleged victim has come forward in the case against 57-year-old Perry Bennington, the Bullitt County man charged with over 7,000 counts of rape and sodomy against a family member. WAVE 3's Scott Harvey has the latest.

Bennington's girlfriend, Linda Wethington, has been arrested for intimidating a witness. That witness was the first victim to step forward and claim that Bennington abused her as a child.

"We were both in his bedroom on the bed," the second victim claims. "We were both naked." The victims says the abuse happened when she was just five years old.

The victim, who lived with Bennington during the alleged abuse, was later removed from Bennington's home and placed in foster care. She received counseling, but Bennington never faced criminal charges.

Detective Scotty McGaha with the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department said Wethington had threatened the first victim, who is not related to her.

"She did make a statement she saw this on the news and was upset and did make a statement that she was going to hurt the victim," McGaha said.

But Wethington did an aboutface when she learned that the latest alleged victim is a member of her own family. She has now agreed to help police with their investigation.

"Linda became aware of that and has now agreed to testify, be a witness for us in court against Perry Bennington," said Det. Scotty McGaha, the lead detective on the case.

Wethington has told police that Bennington confessed to her that he abused the other woman.

Bennington has been charged with five additional counts of first degree rape since the second victim came forward. Police believe there could be even more victims who have yet to come forward.
