Fatal crash on I-64 near Lanesville

LANESVILLE, Ind. (WAVE) -- One person was killed about 8:30 Thursday night after a traffic crash involving three vehicles in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Harrison County, Indiana. Police say the driver of a pick-up truck pulling a trailer was trying to make an illegal U-turn from the eastbound lanes of the interstate and its trailer was struck from behind by another truck.

The driver of the second truck died at the scene. The victim has not yet been identified.

The impact of the crash forced the truck into oncoming traffic, where it was struck a second time near mile maker 113, not far from Lanesville, Indiana.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Harrison County, Indiana were closed for four hours while police cleared the scene.

Indiana State Troopers told us the crash could easily have been avoided if the driver of the first truck would have obeyed the posted "No U-turn" sign.

Police say speed and wet road conditions were also factors in the crash.

No charges have been filed in the crash.
