(LOUISVILLE, July 31st, 2002, 4 p.m.) -- The man accused in the disappearance and slaying of a Shepherdsville teenager will stand trial in Bullitt County, despite a motion to move the case because of heavy publicity.
On Tuesday, Circuit Judge Thomas Waller rejected moving the trial of David "Bucky" Brooks to Bowling Green, northern Kentucky or the Lexington area.
Brooks is charged with murder in the 1999 death of 17-year-old Jessica Dishon. He also faces kidnapping, tampering with physical evidence and complicity charges.
Waller cited a 2000 state Supreme Court case that said heavy news coverage is not sufficient reason to move a trial, saying prejudice must be shown.
Waller said the trial would be moved if it is determined during jury selection that publicity on the case prejudiced public opinion.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Aug. 13.
