LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It was a long night for Metro Police SWAT officers after a Louisville man held them at bay for a good part of Monday night in a Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. When it was all over, they found a woman dead inside the home.

For the neighbors in the 8200 block of Grandfield Way, it was both a sad and scary night as the SWAT team lined the streets of their subdivision. Officers were trying to deal with 68-year-old William G. Seidl who lived at 8207 Grandfield Way. Around 4:15 p.m. Monday, police originally got a call that there was a domestic situation and a shooting at the home. It took nearly four hours to get Seidl to surrender, but hostage negotiators were able to get him to come out of the house peacefully.

Once police were able to get inside, they found 69-year-old Dorene Ruth Seidl dead inside the home. Officers also recovered a weapon.

Seidel allegedly told officers that he and his wife had been having marital problems in the last few weeks and she had come over to get some personal items when he shot her multiple times. Police have charged Seidl with murder.

Those who knew Dorene Seidl tell WAVE 3 she was a kind woman who was very active in her church and her community.
